Understanding DNS Issues

DNS (Domain Name System) translates domain names (like example.com) into IP addresses. When DNS doesn't work correctly — due to misconfigured servers, network issues, or outdated records — websites may fail to load even though they're online. This is one of the most common connectivity problems users encounter.

Common symptoms of DNS issues: The website doesn't load, you see a "DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN" error, or connections time out unexpectedly.

How RAGE Helps

RAGE routes your DNS queries through its secure tunnel, using reliable DNS servers with proper configuration. When connected to RAGE, your DNS requests are handled by trusted servers that provide accurate, up-to-date responses.

Why Simply Changing DNS May Not Work

Many users try to fix DNS issues by changing the DNS server in their device settings. However, some networks intercept DNS traffic regardless of your settings. Even if you configure Cloudflare (1.1.1.1) or Google (8.8.8.8), your requests may not reach these servers.

Important: Without connecting to the RAGE tunnel, changing your DNS server may not resolve the issue. RAGE solves this by routing all DNS traffic through an encrypted tunnel — ensuring your queries reach the intended DNS servers.

DNS over HTTPS (DoH)

Enable DNS over HTTPS to encrypt your DNS queries. This provides additional privacy by preventing network operators from seeing which sites you visit.

Using Custom DNS Servers

In some cases, you may need to use specific DNS servers to access certain services. For example, some government services (like tax portals) may only work correctly with certain DNS providers.
