What is Kill Switch?
Kill Switch is a critical security feature that automatically blocks all internet traffic if your RAGE connection unexpectedly drops. Without Kill Switch, if RAGE disconnects (due to network issues, server problems, or switching between Wi-Fi and cellular), your device would immediately revert to using your regular, unprotected internet connection — potentially exposing your real IP address and unencrypted traffic.
Think of it as a safety net: If the secure tunnel fails, Kill Switch ensures nothing leaks through until the connection is restored.
How It Works
When Kill Switch is enabled, RAGE configures your device's network settings to route all traffic exclusively through the encrypted tunnel. If the tunnel becomes unavailable:
- Traffic is blocked — All internet access is immediately suspended
- Auto-reconnect attempts — RAGE tries to restore the connection
- Traffic resumes — Once reconnected, internet access is restored through the secure tunnel
When to Use Kill Switch
Kill Switch is recommended in these scenarios:
High-Security Situations
- Handling sensitive data or communications
- Using public Wi-Fi networks (cafes, airports, hotels)
- Accessing confidential work resources
- Online banking or financial transactions
Unstable Network Conditions
- Frequently switching between Wi-Fi and cellular
- Using unreliable internet connections
- Traveling through areas with spotty coverage
When You Might Disable Kill Switch
There are situations where you might choose to disable Kill Switch:
- Prioritizing availability over security — If staying online is more important than privacy (e.g., navigation apps while driving)
- Using trusted networks — On your home network where brief unprotected moments are acceptable
- Troubleshooting connectivity — To diagnose whether issues are RAGE-related
Note: When Kill Switch is disabled, any RAGE disconnection will expose your real IP address and traffic to your ISP until the connection is restored.
Enabling Kill Switch in RAGE
- Open RAGE and go to Settings
- Find Kill Switch option
- Toggle it On
- Connect to a server — Kill Switch is now active
Kill Switch vs. Always-On RAGE
Always-On is enabled by default in RAGE and cannot be turned off. These features work together but serve different purposes:
| Feature | Purpose | When Active |
|---|---|---|
| Kill Switch | Blocks traffic when RAGE drops | Only when RAGE is supposed to be connected |
| Always-On RAGE | Automatically reconnects RAGE | Whenever device has internet |
For maximum protection, enable both features together.
Troubleshooting
No internet after RAGE disconnects
This is Kill Switch working correctly. Reconnect to RAGE or disable Kill Switch temporarily if you need immediate unprotected access.
Some apps don't work with Kill Switch
Certain apps may require direct internet access. Use Split Tunneling to exclude specific apps or domains from the RAGE tunnel while keeping Kill Switch enabled for everything else.
